What Bank Al-Maghrib expects
Since 2020, Bank Al-Maghrib applies the same conditions to remote and electronic account opening as to opening in a branch. Banks must use reliable, secure technology equivalent to physical presence, have tools that check the authenticity of identity documents remotely, put controls in place against technology-related fraud, protect personal data, and document how the setup complies with the anti-money laundering law. The rules refer to FATF recommendations 10 and 15 on customer due diligence and new technologies.
How Konnect ID helps
- Presence: a guided liveness challenge proves a real person is in front of the camera.
- Document authenticity: photos of screens, prints, edited images and reused pictures are flagged before a reviewer looks at the case.
- Identity match: the selfie is compared with the document photo, against a threshold you set per product.
- Screening: verified customers are screened against watchlists, and possible matches always go to a reviewer.
- Evidence: each case keeps the images, every check, the decision and its reasons, ready for your auditors and for Bank Al-Maghrib.
Documents
Konnect ID reads the photo page of any ICAO passport through its machine-readable zone, and the Tunisian national ID card front and back. Other national ID cards are added per deployment: tell us which documents your customers hold and we confirm coverage before you sign.
Personal data under Law 09-08
Identity images and biometric data are sensitive. Konnect ID collects only what your flow needs, can avoid storing extracted data at all, and can run entirely on your infrastructure in Morocco with the self-hosted edition, which keeps the processing under your own CNDP declarations.
Merchants and companies
For KYB, the flow collects the commercial register extract and the documents you require (for example the ICE identifier and the articles of association), verifies the signatory's identity and records beneficial owners on one case file.
